I have been a Photoshop user since Version 1.0. It is what I used to become a professional graphic designer.

That is, up until September 2019. I found new software. Affinity Photo.

I am wary of image manipulation software. I have tried a few Photoshop knock-off attempts, but none came close to the control I had with Adobes seminal program. Affinity’s Photo is different. The GUI is far more intuitive and easier to use. Little things like real time layer blending and adjustment layers save time when trying to find that perfect blend. The masking tools are far more concise and the layer selection brush is a huge time saver. Everything else is fairly comparable to Adobes software, with good RAW support, and a layering system that gives far more control than Adobe. It’s even great on the iPad.

Here is the biggest difference: Price.

As any Adobe subscriber knows, the pricing for Creative Suite is ludicrous. A cheap plan for Photoshop and Illustrator currently runs you $41.98 plus tax for an individual.

Affinity Photo?
Currently a one time charge of $49.99. That is correct, no monthly subscription.

I challenge anyone to convince me that I should be using Adobe software when such a robust and quality alternative is available.

What is this site about?

For as long as I can remember, I have drawn. I recently found a book I had drawn all over when I was about 7. Apparently I was way deep into spaceships and alien lands. As time has hurtled by, that focus has wandered from character illustration to oils, to Photoshop, and now, acrylics. About 6 years ago I hit a creative wall. I was uninterested in all of it. That lasted for a couple of years. I was not a fun person to be around. I woke up one day and that fog had dissipated. That’s in essence, what this site is about. The rebirth of my creative side. I am not on a workaholic journey to become some kind of über artist that sells a million dollars worth of art. It would be nice, but unrealistic.
This site is designed to be a home base for me to share my art with people who are creative, or who genuinely appreciate the human capacity to communicate through art. Art is one of the most important tools we have to convey emotion, empathy, love, anger, frustration, and any other emotion you can think of. Art is what keeps us sane, and it is the only thing that is pure expression. I know a lot of creative people and I am in constant awe of what I see them create. It makes me want to be a better artist and to encourage other people to do the same.

Browse this site, see if anything catches your eye. If you would like something, let me know. Go out and create something. Change someone's day with your creativity. It’s one of the best feelings in the world.
